Back in School

Posted on January 4, 2010

So, I’m back in classes.

It’s freezing in here.  I think spoke a bunch of German last night.  It had been a while.  I was surprised how much I missed it.  :)  Go Rob! haha!

I am starting a “Mentor Connector” program.  …and I’m a “2″.

Abrupt ending.

For the past few months, I have been teaching in a grade 7 class in Brampton.  What an experience!

My last day with the class was last Friday, and I am now back in my own classes here at BrockU.

The block on the whole was an incredible learning experience.

My next block is with grade 5’s again in Brampton.  I’m so excited!

I’ll keep this brief.  Yes, I have a blog Andrea.  …welcome.

good times…

Saw The Cat Empire, and Hey Ocean!.  Hey Ocean blew me away.  I’ve never seen the flute look so cool.  Plus, Shad K made a surprise spot on stage.  Good show.

Then saw La Strada (awesome sound: bass, lead guitar, drums, accordian, violin, and cello.  Quite the sound), Julie Fader, and Hey Rosetta!… Great shows.

Anyway, in the meantime, I’m still teaching grade 7.  …and I love it.

I got tickets to see Matt Mays at the Horseshoe Tavern on November 20th.

I’m so excited!  :)

He’s awesome.  That first album with El Torpedo rocks.  I really dig Terminal Romance too.

Anyway. I’m still in school.  :)

I went to the Silversun Pickups show with Cage the Elephant last night. with An Horse as an opening act from Australia.

Wow.  What a show.  It was awesome awesome awesome.

Cage the Elephant was absolute insanity.  I even talked to them a bit after the show a bit.  They are some cool, down to earth dudes from Kentucky who rocked in a serious way.

The Pickups were great.  Their drummer is amazing.  He’s got more style than I thnk I’ve ever seen.  Awesomeness.  I swear his crash was set so high he nearly had to stand up to hit the thing.  It was a complete wall of noise made by the four-peice, and the crowd was really good. It was (ahem) “Tits to gills!” My whole body is sore though today, and I got kicked in the face at one point.  Haha, I don’t care though; all’s fair in rock n’roll.  I got home at 3am which is super late for me.

I took some quick pics amongst all the ‘dancing’, but none of them really turned out.

I highly reccomend the Cage the Elephant album.  I think most of the album tracks are better than what they are playing on the radio.

Anyway, it was full of energy.  What a show.

Vuelta complete…

Posted on September 20, 2009

I’ve been meaning to update this e-place for a while now… Only, I’m more busy than ever.  I moved to Hamilton!  I started school again!  I’m teaching in a grade 7 class!  I’ve been training well!  I bought a new car!  haha…  This all after some serious moments after Sandra and I decided to not continue seeing each other.  Can I write that? I should probably mention it to those that might not know.

Ok, I’ve decided to take some proper rest from skates.  My ankle is a bit of a mess.  …even still.  Too much skating on some tissues that just weren’t ready for the highest levels of skating has put me back a few steps, but on the whole it was a successful season.  I think I was 11th in the last marathon.  The 111km was fun, but damn hard.  Ruben won!  Haha score.  Way to go Ruben and GJ!  Anyway, I’ve just been… I don’t know, out of my element.

I am alive, and frankly, really well (all things considered).  I’ve been feeling quite good on the bike lately too.

Did you all follow the Vuelta?  You should have.  It was spectacular.

I won our mini-league fantasy Vuelta by only 2 points over DJ.  That’s a close race when you consider we were all around 1600 points.  I would have done better in the overall too, if it had not been for Robert Gesink’s knee injury.  He slid from 2nd to 6th in just the last few stages, and I lost a whack of points.  I would have been in contention for the overall if he had held onto the podium.  Anyway, here is the team that I picked at the start of the this Year’s Vuelta:

 Alejandro VALVERDE BELMONTE (11) ESP 13 426
 Ivan BASSO (4) ITA 13 136
 Samuel SANCHEZ GONZALEZ (6) ESP 13 217
 Robert GESINK (3) NED 13 165
 Fabian CANCELLARA (4) SUI 1 140
 Daniele BENNATI (10) ITA 21 149
 Oscar FREIRE GOMEZ (7) ESP N/A 37
 Tyler FARRAR (1) USA N/A 89
 André GREIPEL (1) GER 2 256

A pretty Balanced team between the sprinters and the GC guys… plus good old Cancie who is a lock for a prologue these days, and can hold onto yellow (ahem, gold) for at least more than a day or two…

Funny though, only half my team finished!

Evans… oh Evans.  Where were you in the Tour?

Anyway, I finished 12th out of 1300 teams.  hehe.  What fun!

I am taking a break between assignments, so I will get back to work.

Bis Bald,
Aaron.
