The Simplified Lesson: Volume 2

Posted on June 15, 2007

The problem most skaters make in their training is actually pretty simple.  It starts with them thinking that the easy parts of training are too easy, and so they go too hard.  Then, when its time to actually go hard, they don’t have it, don’t put in maximum effort, and therein never significantly improve.

Oh, I updated the ‘Team’ Section of the website.  Please take a look, and let me know what you think.

Slick track/better wheels…

Posted on June 13, 2007

I know I have a decent post overdue on here, but I just want to spend an appropriate amount of time on it, as not to do it a disservice, and just haven’t had it since the weekend.  Worry not, it is coming.

For now, I will just mention that I taught a clinic today, and it went well.  It was by far the youngest group I’ve ever worked with.  Also, the sprints on the track went well for me tonight, or at least I think.  The track felt a little slick at the start, as it was a little dusty, but I found a wheel combo that felt really good.  All 100mm matters: red, yellow, yellow, red.  It was grippy, and seemed to roll alright.  I really liked the feel.

Gotta eat and replace fluids.

Flip side I see you.

PS: I bought a cool riding kit yesterday.  Ask me about it.

Basically, there a number of different ways you can skate @ >40km/hr.  Some are just better than others.

Last night: Relays. Today: Weinfelden. Tomorrow: Dijon.

Posted on June 9, 2007

The relays were last night, and were awesome.

I thought it was a really cool event, and really crowd friendly.  As far as a “show” goes, it was no ‘Beyonce’, but hey, they were trying.

Results:
Men:
  1. World InlineCenter Matter
  2.  Athleticum
  3.  Citius

Women:
  1.  Sportvital Rollerblade
  2.  Ssangyong Bont
  3.  World InlineCenter

My team had a rough going in the semis, and failed to advance out of some amazingly strong, fast, aggressive, dangerous, and exciting competition.  Wayne and Giovanni were going to start for sure, and as it was something of a toss up between myself, Jasper, and Dario, and we ended up going with Dario as our third.

Today is the Weinfelden marathon, and though it is dry and sunny out, I’ve heard that they are calling for rain this afternoon.  I don’t think it will though.  Tomorrow morning I leave for Dijon, France to race a tough marathon there.  I am driving with my Italian teammates, and looking forward to the drive… oh, and the race.

One really cool thing about last night was skating on the track with all those guys, and hanging out a bit in the infield.  It was a scene, man.  I really like the way Davide Romani skates.  His team, TNT Corea was surprisingly strong on the track.  It will be interesting to see them on the road this afternoon.

Busy, busy,
Double A.

…Relays.

Posted on June 8, 2007

Hehehe!

The heats should be mass carnage.  The are 6 teams per, and 1+0.

Utter carnage.  6 per in the semis, 7 top teams in final. Chaos.

I can’t wait to get this started.

Leaving for the track shortly,

T-Track Relays Tomorrow Night

Posted on June 7, 2007

This weekend is insanely busy with racing, first up, the team relays on the track.

My team was automatically advanced into the semis, and match up with Powerslide, and the other team that advances out of the heats.

I’m not sure if this will make much sense to you out there, but here is a .jpg of the format.

Seven teams in the final, it is going to completely insane on the track tomorrow night.

[With no words at all…]

Posted on June 4, 2007

Some may have noticed that I didn’t post for a few days.  I suppose that I may have done this for a few reasons.  First, I’ve been busy training, and enjoying myself, with some time between races I’ve been able to spend more time training without so much regard on resting for an upcoming race, but more on that later.

With this added time training, I’ve had a bit of a chance to explore new roads, hills, towns, routes etc, take my time on training rides, and even meet a few people.  Last night for example, on the way back from an easier ride, as we were riding by Jan Ulrich’s house, we met up with a retired pro racer who had raced with the likes of Miguel Indurain in his prime.

I’ve also had a chance to scope out the Weinfelden marathon course, and now have a good handle on its layout, which could serve as a bit of an advantage/’level of the playing field a bit’ as it is in its first year running, and many don’t know the course.  The pros here know the race routes of all the major races, and as a rookie, I don’t at all.

The second reason I haven’t posted since, is because I think that I wanted to leave that post atop my blog, and convey/communicate its importance/relevance.  I’m sure by now that if you’ve read it, you understand that it is a rather large admission, and was introspective of myself, and to a degree a statement of my own beliefs system and values.  It was in complete honesty, an admission to myself as much as it was to any and all of ‘you’ out there.  On that note, I will mention that I’ll get more into that in another post I am sort of thinking about lately…

I’m feeling good, and really looking forward to the Weinfelden WIC race.  It had better not be raining, or I will be really, really mad.

On the ‘news’ front, Di Luca won the Giro D’Italia, with Petacchi winning the sprinter’s title.  Massi Presti won the Incheon WIC marathon, but I will wait for the boys to come home, and see if I can gain any insight into the race before I type up any kind of report.

I’ve got some training to do, see you on the flip side,
Dble.A.
