Stunning…
Posted on February 27, 2008

For my birthday, yesterday, Sandra sent me a few pics of herself. Because I think she is so stunning, I just had to post this one. …wow. I just can’t believe this is my girlfriend. …wow.
…she’s gorgeous.
…and; she is super smart, completely open, incredibly sweet, and thinks I’m funny! :)
I am in the middle of a whole bunch of things due at school this week, I had an exam yesterday, and my ‘to do list’ is full. I just have to keep things in order of importance, and I haven’t been able to get to this site as I had hoped this week, without it feeling like a whole lot of work, and I don’t want to stress myself anymore than I am already. I have a paper due tomorrow, and I am leaving for Indoors in about 20 minutes.
AK, I owe you a response, it is next on my list. Well, after tomorrow’s paper is done, and in.

Study Sunday
Posted on February 24, 2008
I just finished yet another paper, and I deserve a break. So, I thought I would post a little something up on the old double a dot kuh. Indoors is still kicking…
I went to indoors this morning, there was a race series (RSO). I reff’d. It was fun. Nothing too eventful…. but I ran a last-man out race afterwards. That was actually alot of fun. Big ups to Jacky Shu for busting heads with the boys up front, until his complete exhaustion! I hope he had fun with it. If he was going for a good placement, he would probably want to avoid so much of the movement in the pack, and try and settle in towards the front, but somewhere where there wasn’t so much scrapping. Sometimes when guys raelly don’t want you in front of them, you’re better off giving up the spot. …Sometimes. Keep fighting Shu-Man! (that really sounds like a he-man character… “Jitsu” was the guy with the golden karate-chop hand)…
Then I ran a double pyramid (no stops).
In teams of three (keeping the work to rest ratio at 1:2) we ran sets as follows:
(5×1lap)+(1×2laps)+(1×3laps)+(1×4laps)+(1×5laps)+(1×4laps)+(1×3laps)+(1×2laps)+(5×1lap)+(3×2laps)+(1×3laps)+(3×2laps)+(5×1lap)
It was awesomely intense, and the whole thing was QUALITY speed. (IMPORTANT). Really, I think that was one of the best runs we’ve done this year. Good exchanges too! :)
One bad exchange with two laps to go saw my team (myself, Sarah Hopkins, Eric Maas) move from first to second in the dying laps giving the upset win to the team of Jesse Pauley, Scott Pauley, and Jacky Shu. Damn. We had it in the bag too.
On a side note, I wish Andrew Hegarty a speedy recovery. I found out this morning that he broke his arm/wrist at last Wednesday’s practice. Swift heals, B.
In keeping with the theme of late, he is a picture from Quito, Ecuador from 1997:
You can see me moving up on the inside, with Derek Downing doing the same on the outside. This would have been the points race. It would be DD taking the 500m final. Story to follow there, again. At the good old back, you can see Peter “the pumpkin eater” Doucet hanging on with grinding teeth. I think one of the the Columbians in this race is Jaime Arcila. You can see Jonathan Webster in the yellow/red Rollerblade helmet, once considered one of the coolest helmets around. I remember that the Chileans in these Champs were super strong also…
Hello to Sandra! Now that I know you read this every once in a while, I just wanted to fit in a quick note to say that I love you. :) …oh, and you’re super cute. I finished my paper! I will study for a few hours, then watch Breaking Bad.
By the way, to everyone: that show is awesome.

Campaign 2
Posted on February 23, 2008
Hi all…
I just thought I would put another post up about a campaign for Aeroplan points! :)
I am now at 37,638 (22,362 short of 60,000). I have faith that with your help, I (we) can reach the goal, and purchase a flight to Zurich for the WIC/SIC/GBC 2008 together!!!!
So what do you think? Every little bit counts, and I would very much appreciate any of your help.
I know that it costs $0.02 per mile, but with the help of a few of you out there, we can do it! Apparantly the process is very easy, check out: http://www.aeroplan.com/use_your_miles/share_miles/launch.do My aeroplan number is: 518-997-234. Name: Aaron Arndt
Now, back to our regularly scheduled program.
So I mentioned a story about the 1996 Jr. World Champs… It’s a good one. I’ll write about it when I have enough time. I have been amidst mid-term exams and papers for the last month, and after Tuesday (my birthday) things should lighten up some. Of course, that is the day of one of my biggest exams of the year.
How ’bout some fun stuff?
on the topic of ‘96 JWC, here is a pic from one of the distance races:
in front of me are two Chileans and an Argentinean, beside is a French skater, and behind an Australian. I went alright in the distance races, but was far better in the sprints on the track. That was me in my 300m TT in the last post, I finished just outside the top ten, I believe. In the distances, it was tough as a lone Canadian amongst a very experienced junior international field. I think I went around 20th or so in each of the finals. Really cool experience. Also, I don’t think I am or was that white. That is an effect from the flash of the camera.
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! I was just talking to Ruben Martinez… He says that’s him!!! ahahahahahahaahahahahaha!!! how awesome is that?? :) I am having real trouble Believing it, but its true! Too funny. See? Stacked competition.
Now, this picture was taken back at Scooter’s way back. Interestingly they haven’t updated the wall paint, and this was in an era where some of the artistic skaters would practice their circles or loops or whatever they do on the inside. Our “coach” was actually just an artistic skater who liked to yell at children. Anyway, you can see their white high boots, and mini-skirt. Where were the fashion police that day? I, on the other hand, look pretty damn cool.
I still can’t believe that about Ruben.
Peace out, think about the Miles program… Even just a few really counts!!! :)
Thanks all,

Ben Alchin:
“Hmmmm… I say go for it. I think you have to.”
1996 Junior World Championships - Barrancabermeja, Columbia Novemer 3-10, 1996
Looking back, you have to see how stacked these Junior World Championships really were. Shane Dobbin, Diego Rosero, Gergory Duggento… just to name a few. When I have more time, I should write more about these championships. Like Gergory throwing me into the wall in the semi of the track 500. Oh, and I made the final on the road. Me, two Americans, two Columbians, and an Italian. Details to follow… ha, and the backlog continues… oh, and this quote has special signifigance and circumstance to me.

Memorable Quotes 1: [+Training; real deal]

Kalon Dobbin:
“Always, Always leave an allen key in your car. That way, you’ve always got one. Hell, leave two.”

Now, wait just a damn minute. What is up here? This is a “blog”, right? [Damn I hate that word] But it is by me, Aaron Arndt, Double A, and I am neat and special and different. I’m cool and unique; and I have an ability to put a spin on things a little different than any others. Why not put this thing to a better use? Why not give 100% of me, and take a little risk? Why not say, “hey damn it, I can really use this thing as a tool for me, and not just ‘half-ass’ with it again and again”. Damn, that can be said for a lot of things… But why not use this site to its full extent?
Talk is cheap; lies are expensive. So is equivocation, indecision, procrastination, hell; call it laziness, indiscipline, self-sabotage, personal-limitation-infliction and even self-destruction. “F” it. Here is me.(:)
I am fat, lazy, and out of shape. I came off the WIC 2007 on the best form of my life… well, since my snowboard accident, and it felt good. Damn good. Ok, I still wasn’t ‘too’ or as good on the track, but in the straights on the road I really had something going. I returned to Canada, and after a long season put in one more solid effort prepping for and racing A2A. For the next few weeks after that I was still motivated, and putting in quality miles on my skates on the roads, and enjoying it. I basically lent my bike to Deano so that I had someone to train with, and he got into some shape so he could skate indoors with me. Then it snowed, a whole bunch, and kept snowing.
It really is tough to train properly here in Canada. We’ve been under snow basically ever since, and skating outdoors (or trying to) basically sucked. I would have loved to be in the southern hemisphere (or close to it) and skating. I really haven’t felt that ‘edge’ in my training since. I like training indoors; its fun, and I like working with the group. But, I haven’t really invested myself like I had planned, and I’m really not in that great a shape/form right now…
“Whaa whaaaaa!!!” (baby crying) I know. Well, no more. I’ve got about what, 8 or nine weeks to get my ass in shape? Ok, lets do it.
I am leaving for the GBC/GIC/WIC/SIC/etcIC 2008 basically as soon as I can and start racing right away. I’ve got some team stuff still to sort out still, but that is besides the point.
Over the next while, I will be publishing some rather revealing, honest, untouched, un-flattering, and self-exposing pictures of myself to; in a round-about way, help keep me motivated. I don’t claim to be in shape right now, but I will be. give me a little time. I am not, and this is not about saying “I look great”, or “look at me”. If you think that’s what I am doing, you clearly don’t know me at all, and I would probably hate you if I knew you. That’s really not the point. I’m not completely out of shape, just not where I want to be. Bare with me. This is about self-dicipline and motivation. I am taking some pretty serious risk here. Support my ass. Be critical sure, but not about my intentions.
Here are the first few: Taken: Sunday, February 17, 2008.

Next picture: Tuesday, February 26, 2008.
So, tell your friends. The more hits I get over the next ~9 weeks, the more motivation I’ll get out of this thing. Maybe use it to motivate yourself. You know, symbiosis. What the hell? give me a call! Haha, ask me what I’m doing, and if it’s not ‘training, studying, eating, or sleeping’ yell at me. Call me names. Oh, and “blogging” [damn it], I’ll fit that in too.
Oh, I’ll probably post other stuff too. Just not now.
Takes away from the message right now, I think.

PS: I really hesitated to hit “Publish”… but will now.

Picture Quiz
Posted on February 16, 2008

This picture, taken in Belle Isle, MI, (~1996…) shows myself, Barry Publow, Julie Glass (Then Julie Brandt), Theresa Cliff, I think that’s Jileanne Rookard’s mom… The question I have for you out there is, who is the big guy in the old-school Team Rainbow kit (#981)? More on this story to follow… If we can get a name, that would be awesome. Where u at?

Ok, This picture was taken at the 1998 Pan Am Championships in Quito, Ecuador after the marathon and subsequent “wheel throwing competition”. There was pool about ~100m from a huge deck on our floor, and the idea was to throw wheels from the deck into the pool. The pool was 15 feet deep, and the water was a dark greenish colour. We did our ‘best’ to track the wheels down that were left at the bottom of the pool afterwards. At the time, the wheels were a somewhat standard 80mm “Hyper Bank-Robber” or “Ultimate Track-Attack”. This was just before those green Labedas came out that seemed to chew over 500m but were really popular for a short period… All these were equally good for “wheel bowling” also played along the halls of the hotel… So, who is pictured?

This handsome cat likes racing cars. The matching outfit/colour scheme is only coincidence. He is not a part of the pit crew. Taken at the Molson Indy circa ~1986. Any guesses at who it is?

This was taken before my accident, at the ~1999 Festival de la Sante… Two skaters are pictured to the left. Who are they???
Ok, so after this race, we hit the VIP tent hard. I drank more champagne that day than I think I ever had, or have since. I had a great time up on the podium/mainstage, believe me. Ask PJ. Later, I fell asleep in the middle of the park and awoke to a huge family singing “Happy Birthday” as they marched overtop/around me. Good times.
Oh god, is that belly showing? And, whatever happened to those shorts?
From what I remember, this race came down to the last 100m. There was a tight 90 degree that I got to the front of, jammed up, and punched it to the line. I remember thinking that it was short enough that if anyone were to come around me, they’d have to be screaming fast, and I was on form. Thankfully, I held on for the win, but I would say if the last straight was even 10m longer I couldn’t have held. Ah, the good old days…
I’ve got some more things to post, but I’ll end here and get back to work.
-A^2.
