Headache
Posted on June 19, 2008
ok, no details on the crash… nothing special. Fast race on a tough course. Crashed about 2/3 through the race. Was feeling good too. Through a corner feet got taken out from under me. Hurt my hand and bum. Knocked my head pretty good too. Ruined a suit and a pair of underwear to boot.
Weinfelden this weekend, track on friday, marathon on Saturday.
Think I’m going back to sleep. Head is pounding…

Kurs
Posted on June 14, 2008
So, as I have written about briefly earlier, I am taking a German Language course in Konstanz, Germany. It is Monday - Friday from 2-5:15pm, and about a 20min bike ride from my place.
What is interesting (and rather challenging at first) is that the class operates in German. So far I think it is going rather well, and is going at about the right speed for me to still train and race around the class and homework. I’ve been a little frustrated in class since a few of the Russian speaking students have been creating Russian banter. This, while concentrating on the German instruction in class, is especially distracting. I might not normally complain, but in this case it is also especially annoying because the banter is mainly one student (Igor, aus der Ukraine) explaining the class work to another student (Emil, aus der Republik Moldau) in Russian, only Emil hasn’t bothered to show up to class the last three days. Meanwhile, he is already two steps behind due to disinterest and some sort of “too manly to learn German” attitude… It is becoming apparent that Emil is in the class because he has to be, not because he wants to be.
On the topic of class complaints, This same student, Igor, has a habit of somehow hijacking my questions (in German). He appears to have some command of German language, and is eager to interject anything he can all the time at the expense of anything and everything. Someone else’s understanding, the momentum of the class, etc… The problem is that his annunciation sounds as if he recently swallowed a live mouse, who’s tail continues to interfere with the closing of his epiglottis, and hind legs scratching and clawing at the back of his throat prevent him from properly moving his tongue.
Hack-Hack.
Going to Dijon this weekend. We’ll see how racing goes.

Swiss Disaster
Posted on June 12, 2008
Up one-nil after the first half, Switzerland dropped their game 2-1 to Turkey through the second.
The dreams of a home-team champion have been crushed.
I skated the WCW’s last night, and went okay in the 200 @ 17.2 (per the laser/beam). I suppose it is good for me pushing and dragging the wind around solo, with no one in front or behind (much slower condition). I am still a little shakey through the corners at top speed, but am starting to smooth out the straights. I certainly feel less anxious about speed, I just have to keep smoothing things out the whole way through. [Balance the effort and form.] I also think it’s time to start dropping down a little through at least the second turn. Trouble is, can I still skate through the corner(s?)… time will tell.
I think I am going to go for a little skate down by the lake before school. I’ll stop by the boy’s place to see who’s up for a roll. Also need a wheel change.
Howard Stern rules.

Hey now!
Looking back at the DH speed training, we were doing just over 20km in just over 25mins. Yes, on skates. With just 4 guys pulling through, the leads were tough, but a really good chance to feel form. This included a number of small climbs, and a long 6km section of a grinding false flat into Frauenfeld.
I had wanted to finish a race report, and planned to write up something this morning. I think I’ll just write something abreviated about Regensburg. I am racing tonight, and I am doing a bit of relaxing this morning. I’ll see where I get.
How about those European Championships?

PS: I found a neat little website that I thought was quite cool: http://www.machinehead-software.co.uk/bike/speed_distance_time_calc.html
lots of uses for that one…

Disaster Italia!
Posted on June 9, 2008
More DH’s in the evening. I felt better. Feelin’ the road form. :) + loops in Frauenfeld. I felt surprisingly good. It’s amazing how working at +60km/hr helps your form.
I enjoyed school today. Also went to the Euro ‘08 veiwing theater to watch the Italian disaster, which was awesome. :) Italian fans leaving in drones. Holland fans enjoying every minute of it. Peter Michael and Eddy seemed like big fans… when it suited them.
two posts in one day a little more than planned. oh well, lots to make up for.

Have I ever mentioned how much of a Howard Stern fan I am?
…been caught up in the European soccer Championships. It’s a scene, man. Is it getting much coverage in NA? Was at the viewing theatre in Kreuzlingen tonight. 5000+ people around a huge television screen. Beer being slugged. I even saw a new beer-carrying device. Basically, you buy 8 plastic cups of beer, and they come in a folding cardboard case; novel.
More DH training in the AM. I’m curious to see some times+results from provincials. Can’t seem to find anything.
I have a pimple on my forehead.
I lost my razor. I left it in Kassel, in the hotel. So i’ve been sporting a beard. I think it looks bad-ass. I scare myself in the mirror every time.
I think I am a food addict.
‘nutha sucky post.

Good morning…
Posted on June 6, 2008
Last night’s training was intense, with a “solo” (no draft) 20km Downhill at ~55km/hr, followed by a few circuits in Frauenfeld, and sprints. This, after a long day for me was tough. Especially the DH. A few near deaths too… Dumb-ass Swiss driver’s…
It turns out, I will be working at a public viewing theatre for the European Championships football (soccer) tournament. Should be a big party. I hope that goes well. I don’t really know yet what my job there entails.
I am looking forward to a weekend with no travelling. I hope the wetaher is nice. There is supposed to be a 70km skate out of Weinfelden on Sunday. I think I’ll crash that party if it works into my schedule.
