Skating is hard.

Posted on June 16, 2009

I skated for the first time last night on the track.  We were motor-pacing behind the vespa at ~40km/hr.  I felt a little off.  Scared in moments, a little unstable, and unsure of my form.  I think I jumped into things a little too swiftly.  I’ll need some miles in my legs before my form feels comfy.

Anyway, we had a little party last night, and I had a few minutes to write something short.  I skated, so… I had to write something.

…short,
A.

Retraction

Posted on June 15, 2009

I must regretfully retract the following statement:

“…the group sorted into Shane and Diego putting in an effort at the front.” (June 4, 2009)

Thank you.

backlog yet again…

Posted on June 8, 2009

I’ve already developed a backlog of things I want to post about, but I’m exhausted.  I put in just shy of 200km of quality km’s today.  I’m zapped.

Was in Bern on Saturday.  Was epic.

Things are going really well here.  I think with a little more work, I should be in shape again soon.

For now, my plan is to get to sleep early tonizzle.  I have to put some clothes away too.  I have a question for this audience though…  a poll, if you will.  :)

What is the best cereal of all time?

hope to get a response or two… you know, see if people are out there.

Sleep in minutes,

A to the Rizzon.

Conquer? …Less than a year. “Not that big, actually.”

Posted on June 4, 2009

What a ride.

I rode over the Weinfelden WIC course today, past the scene of last year’s crash.  I was flooded with flashbacks, memories, and of course out came a few stories of different skaters appearing out of the corn fields.  Perhaps most notably Ruben Martinez. Who, several minutes after everyone capable of walking had left the scene, popped up out of the six-foot tall growth, looked both ways, and took off sprinting…  That moment may be among the funniest things I have ever experienced.  I even had to laugh in that moment; broken leg and all. In the moment today though, I couldn’t help but think about my accident in Whistler, and going back to that scene afterwards.  Damn.

The ride was excellent.  Ok, forgive and excuse the name-droppping here, but I have to say that these guys aren’t just guys that I respect and/or admire in this sport, but I also consider my frineds.  So I rode with the boys from the Kreuzlingen house; Kalon and Shane Dobbin, DJ Nation, Diego Rosero, and Ferre Spruyt.  Good times.  I am really happy and appreciaive to be here.  This really feels like home for me in so many ways.  And, I actually felt surprisingly good, especially since I’ve ratcheted up my training this week, and frankly I’m tired.  But today’s was really good and fun.  What was supposed to be a “nice easy ride” [because ot the Flying 200’s later that night] wasn’t quite as “chill” as I’d expected.  Though, that’s not such a bad thing for me.  Up the first major climb, which is about 4km @ ~7-12% the group sorted into Shane and Diego putting in an effort at the front.  I tried to ignore my discomfort…  but after a while I was looking at 198… 199…  198… flashing on my HRM…  I looked to see the other’s expressions, which were indefinable, so I just asked; “is it just me, or is this increadibly hard?”  The grind to the top continued, and afterwards i found out that it wasn’t just me.

Anyway, I am tired.  We cleaned the track for the Swiss Nationals later today, and now I’m getting ready for bed.  I just had some time, and thought I’d write a true journal entry, written in stream of thought.  I’m not going to re-schedule my life around updating this website, but I do wish to share.

Peace and sleep,
A to the Rizzon.

Training in an hour, feels like maybe I am home.
