Report:
I did not attend this race, and will not be traveling to China. No Asian races for me this season. Maybe next year.
However, I do have some insight into the race.
Upon their return from Korea, most of the pros were commenting with the same sentiment; “Massi cheated”.
A two man break of Massi Presti and a Korean skater didn’t just ‘survive’ the 30km breakaway, on the second of two laps, they actually gained time on the peleton.
This effort, in the estimation of anyone who knows racing, is at the very least superhuman, impossible, and in this case, aided by the draft of a motorcycle. With the entire pack, Athleticum, Sportvital, Powerslide, Matter, and SpiroTiger, putting their full teams to the front and chasing full, the two skaters put time on the field at the end of a 30km breakaway. Was something amiss? I have to say that I think so. I am certainly not alone.
I also heard tales of individuals chasing their own teammate’s breakaways down, and infighting amongst some teams.
I think I will add to this report and get some actual quotes from some of the boys. I’ll let you know when I add more.
